Art Statement:

This painting called Forgiveness is a meditation on forgiveness I painted to help deal with various struggles.

 The original oil painting is an impression of what my heart looked like when it was open to forgiveness. It depicts a rustic shack that was blocked from light until the door was opened.

Inside was no life until it welcomed the Light of Christ and the dust could be swept away. I saw something similar to this in a vision following confession years back when I sought to renew my faith.

 I hope it may be uplifting for all who see it, as we remain thankful for God’s Mercy continually poured out, for the gifts of the sacraments, and for all the graces and Joy God offers through His Merciful Love.

Jane Appleby is a Burnaby painter and instructor who has painted several murals and commissions. Her spiritual works The Gifts of the Holy Spirit are a permanent installation of Sacred Art at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Burnaby.
